Cold Room Storage

Cold room storage covers the enclosure rather than the refrigeration: insulated sandwich panels, doors, floors and the engineering that ties them together. Insulation thickness and panel quality decide the running cost of the room for its entire life, which is why cutting cost here is usually a false economy.

Specifying a Cold Room

Panel thickness follows the temperature: 75-100mm for chill, 150-200mm for freezing. Insulation core matters too — polyurethane conducts less heat than polystyrene at the same thickness. Floor insulation is essential below freezing or the ground beneath will heave. Doors are the biggest single source of heat gain, so specify good seals, and add an air curtain or strip curtain on any doorway in constant use.
