Split Air Conditioners

Split air conditioners remain the volume format worldwide because the noisy components sit outside and only a quiet indoor unit occupies the room. The buying decisions come down to refrigerant, inverter or fixed speed, and efficiency class — and those three interact more than the spec sheets suggest.

Inverter or Fixed Frequency

DC inverter units modulate compressor speed to match load instead of cycling, which is both far more efficient and much quieter once the room reaches setpoint. Fixed frequency costs less and has no inverter board to fail — a real consideration in markets with unstable mains. On refrigerant, R32 carries roughly a third the global warming potential of R410A and is where regulation is heading; specify it unless the destination market says otherwise.
