Radial fans throw air outward from the impeller rather than along the shaft, which is what lets them build static pressure. In practice the category overlaps heavily with centrifugal fans — the distinction is mostly about blade geometry and housing. What matters commercially is drive type, blade curvature and whether the unit is built for continuous industrial duty or intermittent light service.

Specifying a Radial Fan
Decide EC or AC first. EC costs more up front and repays it on any duty with variable load, because speed control does not throttle efficiency. Then set blade curvature: backward curved for a non-overloading motor characteristic, forward curved for maximum airflow from a compact frame. Check that the quoted airflow is at your actual static pressure, not free air — this is where most disappointments originate.
