Centrifugal fans exist to generate static pressure — to push air through ducting, filters, heat exchangers and grease traps where an axial fan would simply stall. The blade curvature sets the character: forward curved gives high airflow from a compact housing, backward curved gives a non-overloading power curve that protects the motor when system resistance drops.

Forward or Backward Curved?

Forward curved packs more airflow into a smaller diameter, which is why air handling units and fan coils use it — but the motor can be overloaded if the duct resistance is lower than designed. Backward curved cannot overload, runs more efficiently and is the right answer for variable systems and anything running continuously. Double inlet roughly doubles airflow at the same diameter and balances bearing thrust. Choose EC drive if the fan will spend most of its life at part load.
