Exhaust Fans

Exhaust fans remove heat, moisture, fumes and dust from a building rather than circulating air within it, which makes them the primary ventilation equipment in factories, commercial kitchens, livestock housing and process areas. Mounting position — wall, roof, duct or window — is usually dictated by the building, and it in turn dictates the fan type.

Sizing an Exhaust Fan

Work from air changes per hour for the room volume, not from fan diameter. A workshop needs 6 to 10, a commercial kitchen 15 to 30, a livestock shed considerably more in summer. Then confirm the fan can achieve that against the actual resistance of louvres, filters and ducting. For flammable or corrosive atmospheres, only a certified flameproof motor with a non-sparking impeller is acceptable.
