Ventilation Fans

Ventilation fans divide by how they move air, and the split matters more than size or price. Axial fans move large volumes against low resistance — the right answer for open wall and roof extraction. Centrifugal and radial fans generate the static pressure that ducting, filters and grease traps demand. Cross flow fans produce a wide flat air sheet for heaters and air curtains. Picking the wrong family means the fan stalls or runs far off its efficiency point.

Start with static pressure, not airflow. A fan rated 5000m3/h in free air may deliver a third of that through a real duct run. Then check blade material against the air stream — aluminium and stainless for heat and corrosion, plastic for cost and damp air, cast iron for hot gas and hazardous areas. Finally decide AC or EC: EC motors cost more but hold efficiency at part load, which pays back within a year on continuous duty.
