Almost any modern unit will cool a hotel bedroom. Very few will do it at a sound level a guest tolerates at 2am. A unit at 45 dB(A) generates complaints and review scores regardless of how well it performs thermally — and the cost of that is measured in occupancy, not in energy. A close second is cycling: fixed-speed units announce themselves every time they start, which wakes people even at a modest sound level.

Make indoor sound pressure at low fan speed a hard requirement with a stated measurement condition, not a tie-breaker between otherwise equal units. Choose inverter compressors so the unit runs continuously at low output rather than cycling. Provide per-room control integrated with the property management system so unoccupied rooms set back — in a hotel running 70% occupancy that is a large, permanently available saving. And check condensate and drainage design carefully: a drain fault in a guest room is a room out of service.

Questions buyers ask

What sound level is acceptable in a hotel bedroom?
Quiet enough that a guest three metres away does not notice the unit at night — which in practice means comparing units on sound pressure at their lowest fan speed at a stated distance, and treating it as a pass/fail requirement. Differences of a few decibels that look trivial on a datasheet are clearly audible in a silent bedroom.
Why do inverter units matter so much in hotels?
Because a fixed-speed compressor answers a part-load room by switching fully on and fully off. The guest hears each start and feels the temperature swing between them. An inverter runs continuously at reduced output, so the room stays at setpoint and the unit stays quiet — the part-load efficiency gain is almost a bonus.
How much does occupancy setback actually save?
A great deal, because hotel rooms are unoccupied for most of each day even at high occupancy. Setting back unoccupied rooms through integration with the property management system removes conditioning that nobody is benefiting from, and unlike most efficiency measures it requires no compromise in guest comfort.
