Cast Iron
Cast iron impellers and housings add the rotating mass that damps vibration and the blade-pass noise a light impeller produces. Critically, cast iron will not throw a spark on contact — which is why it is specified for hazardous atmospheres where an aluminium impeller would be a genuine ignition risk.
