When operated at speed and pressure ratings, the compact and robust design allows for continuous service. The basic model consists of a cast iron housing and involute cast iron impellers. The carburized and ground alloy steel timing gears are fixed to steel shafts with tapered fits and locking nuts. The use of oversized wear-resistant bearings, including cylindrical roller bearings on the drive shaft to withstand V-belt tension. The Universal RAI features thrust control, with gear end splash lubrication and grease-lubricated drive end. Available accessories include drivers, safety valves, inlet and outlet silencers, inlet filters, check valves, extended bases, V-belts or flexible couplings, and drive protection.
