Core Operating Principle (Unique Advantages of Direct Cooling)
Ice-Making Phase A water pump fills the aluminum alloy ice mold cells with fresh water, while liquid refrigerant flows through internal channels within the aluminum plates. Direct heat exchange with the water rapidly extracts heat, causing the water to freeze progressively from the outside in into solid ice blocks. This process eliminates the need for brine tanks and secondary heat exchange, resulting in heat exchange efficiency over 30% higher than traditional brine-based ice making. Ice Harvesting Phase Once the ice blocks are fully frozen, the system switches to hot-gas defrost mode. High-temperature discharge gas from the compressor is routed into the aluminum evaporator plates, melting a thin layer at the interface between the ice and the mold; the ice blocks then drop onto the bottom platform under their own weight. Upon completion, the platform automatically extends outward, allowing for direct transfer to cold storage or conveyor systems. Fully Automated Cycle A PLC program automatically manages the entire sequence—water refilling, freezing timing, hot-gas defrosting, and ice pushing/resetting—requiring no manual supervision.
This direct cooling block ice machine is integrally composed of aluminum ice molds, an automatic lifting water sealing platform driven by screw rods, 1.2mm painted stainless steel outer enclosure plates, and thick thermal insulation layers, together with an integrated refrigeration and electric control unit on the left side to realize fully automatic ice making and ice unloading.
Key Advantages of Direct-Cooling Ice Machines
Hygienic Ice: Uses pure water for direct cooling; the ice does not come into contact with brine and has no salty taste, making it suitable for preserving produce and seafood. In contrast, brine-cooled ice contains salt and is restricted to industrial cooling applications, as it cannot touch food products. Energy Efficiency and Cost Savings: Eliminates the need for brine tanks, circulation pumps, and brine heat exchange processes, resulting in 20%–35% electricity savings for the same daily ice output. High Automation: Features automatic ice harvesting and pushing; a single unit requires only one person for basic monitoring, whereas brine-based systems require manual ice retrieval and transport. Compact Footprint: Utilizes an integrated, modular design that eliminates the need for civil engineering work (such as constructing brine tanks), offers high adaptability to factory layouts, and allows for relocation via whole-unit lifting. Easy Maintenance: Free from brine corrosion issues; features rust-resistant aluminum alloy evaporators and piping that is resistant to scale buildup and clogging.
Fisheries: Deep-sea fishing vessels, fishing ports and wharves, seafood wholesale markets, and fish/shrimp processing plants; block ice melts slowly, providing long-lasting preservation for aquatic products. Fresh Agricultural Produce: Long-distance cold chain transport for fruits and vegetables, pre-cooling at vegetable production bases, and cooling/preservation of slaughtered meat. Industrial Cooling: Underground mine cooling, temperature control for chemical reactors, cooling for concrete bridge construction, and water cooling for concrete mixing plants. Commercial & Tourism: Ice sculpture exhibitions, ice theme parks, and cooling for large-scale events. Emergency Reserves: Cold chain storage facilities, heat relief for high-temperature factories, and ice storage for emergency cooling during disasters. .
Product Showcase
The machine produces standard solid square ice blocks featuring straight, well-defined edges and corners—free from burrs, chipped edges, or hollow pockets. The ice is uniformly clear and white, displaying only subtle, natural internal crystal patterns; it offers high transparency without cloudiness or salt-related impurities (thanks to a direct-cooling process that avoids brine contamination) and features smooth, dense cut surfaces.
ir-cooled (suitable for 1–2 ton machines; features easy installation and suitability for water-scarce areas; drawbacks include high energy consumption—80–90 kWh per ton of ice at ambient temperatures). Water-cooled (suitable for 3–50 ton machines; features easy installation and lower equipment costs; drawbacks include relatively high energy consumption—70–80 kWh per ton of ice at ambient temperatures). Evaporative-cooled (suitable for all machines with capacities of 10 tons or more; features low energy consumption and savings on cooling water; drawbacks include higher equipment costs and a more complex installation process).
FAQ
Q1: What drainage operation is mandatory before startup? A1: Complete air blowing & drainage first. Open the exhaust ball valve and close the de-icing ball valve; set the drainage time to over 20 mins. Never start the machine without draining water. Q2: Why power on the unit 4 hours in advance before compressor startup? A2: To activate the crankcase heater, keeping crankcase temperature 5–25℃ higher than ambient. Starting with low temperature will cause severe compressor damage. Q3: How to handle water circuits if the machine is shut down for over 7 days? A3: Drain all water from the water tank, condenser, and cooling tower, and shut off the main water supply valve to prevent pipeline cracking, especially in cold winter. Q4: What is the standard operating high pressure? What happens if it deviates? A4: Normal high pressure ranges 13–15 bar. Low pressure leads to poor de-icing; excessive pressure greatly reduces ice production efficiency. Q5: What is the lubrication cycle and grease type for lifting screw rods? A5: Fill anti-freeze lubricant (-30℃ resistant) every 15 days for screw rods; lubricate internal lifter parts once every 3 months

Customer Success Case Study
The direct-cooling block ice machine is disassembled into multiple independent modules. Each module undergoes multi-layer protection—using stretch wrap, bubble wrap, and waterproof film—before being loaded into a standard shipping container, where the units are secured in place for export as a complete container shipment.
