A mushroom growing room runs a sequence rather than a fixed condition. Spawn run needs around 24 °C with high CO₂ and no fresh air; pinning needs a deliberate drop in temperature and CO₂ to trigger fruiting; cropping needs stable cool conditions with continuous fresh air. WhyWhy CO₂ control is the whole game
Mushrooms respire heavily, and CO₂ accumulates fast in a closed room. Concentration is the primary trigger the grower uses: high CO₂ encourages vegetative growth, and dropping it initiates pinning. That makes fresh air a control input rather than merely a hygiene requirement — the ventilation system is a growing tool, and its responsiveness directly determines yield and timing.
HowConditioning at very high humidity
These rooms run at 85–95% relative humidity, which is punishing for equipment and makes condensation control a constant concern. Design for accurate mixing of fresh and recirculated air with responsive control, since CO₂ is being actively steered. Distribute air so it never blows directly on the crop — direct airflow dries caps and marks them. And specify every component for permanent condensation plus routine steam sterilisation between crops, which is more aggressive than the growing environment itself.
